Dr. Joseph J. Buchino, MD is chief of pathology at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Virginia. His interest in photography began in late 1998 when he was on a trip to Alaska with his son. Since that time he has become an accomplished photographer and has photographed a wide range of subjects including landscape, architecture, people, flowers, and animals in addition to demonstrating expertise in abstract and macro photography.
Dr. Buchino has photographed in various areas throughout North America, Europe and Asia combining his love of photography and travel. But he also photographs close to home seeing the beauty in things great and small. Dr. Buchino exhibits his work at several galleries in Northern Virginia including the Art League’s Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia. His understanding of composition and light has won him numerous awards at local photography clubs and several institutions have his work on permanent display. He recently did the photography for a book “Porching: A Humorous Look at America’s Favorite Pastime” (Minervia Books, LLC 2003), which was written by his brother, Dr. John J. Buchino.
Perhaps the most important aspect of photography is the art of “seeing” those things which we might otherwise pass by or take for granted. It is this art that Dr. Buchino continues to pursue in making his images.
